Google’s new Pixel 6a smartphone has just hit store shelves, offering a lower cost alternative to the premium Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices (Starting at $749), but does it compare given the lower price point?

The Pixel 6a (front) features the same styling as the premium Pixel devices.

Well it’s worth noting that for starters, right out of the box the Pixel 6a doesn’t look like a cheaper phone.  It’s a little smaller than the premium Pixel 6 (The 6a being 6.1 inches and the Pixel 6 at 6.4) but the exterior design is closely matched, helped along by Pixel’s signature camera visor on back of the device.

On board are many of the key features found in the premium Pixel devices like Google’s Tensor processor (It’s the same as in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, A great Camera line-up (without the optical zoom and with lower MP front and rear Cameras), Fingerprint lock, Voice typing in any app (which I found to be a real game changer) and importantly a battery that can last up to 72 hours in extreme battery saver mode.

If you like the look and features of the premium Pixel6 devices but they’re not quite in your price range the Pixel6a is a great alternative that doesn’t come at the sacrifice of the features you really want.
