SMS Scams Targeting Loyalty Points and Rewards programs are on the rise…check your phone!

The Australian Communications and Media Authority recently issued an alert regarding a notable rise in these fraudulent schemes that typically aim to deceive individuals into disclosing personal information or clicking on harmful links.

Quite often, a clear sign of a scam is the incorrect spelling of a well-known brand, indicating that the message is not legitimate but if you’re not certain it’s best to contact the organization directly using official contact details – not the link in the message.

In 2023, Telstra alone blocked an average of 11 million scam SMS messages per month through its Cleaner Pipes program.
