This coming Sunday (Jan 28 ) is international data privacy day, so here’s a quick tip for anyone about to get rid of or sell an old computer.

Firstly, even if it’s just being recycled, you’ll need to securerly erase the hard drive…and this means going beyond just using the ‘format’ option (from which it’s actually possibly to recover deleted files).

I’ve recently used a free program called DBAN, it helps you create a bootable disk that gives you options to perform permanent data destruction from your hard drives.
DBAN is simple to use, but put aside a full day to let the program do it’s work. (and your old data won’t fall into the wrong hands).

You’ll find DBAN here – https://dban.org
