Social Networks such as Facebook and Twitter can be a haven of inappropriate and anti-social activity, however under new government guidelines, reporting problems experienced on these sites should be a much more straightforward process.

The cooperative arrangement for complaints handling agreed to by Facebook, Google Yahoo and Microsoft commits these companies to clearly state acceptable use guidelines and raise awareness about what behaviour is and isn’t acceptable on their networks.

This new protocol for social networks complements the government’s publication, The Easy Guide to Socialising Online which provides information and advice to families about how to safely navigate popular social networks.   It’s a must read for any family at http://www.dbcde.gov.au/easyguide
