This may come as no surprise but Apple’s iPad dominates the Australian market as the most popular tablet device.

The findings of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association’s 8th annual mobile phone lifestyle index also revealed big jump in tablet device ownership, up from 16 percent to 40 percent over the past year.

Additionally, among those who didn’t already own a tablet device, 33 percent indicated that they were planning to buy a tablet in the next 12 months which could see almost ¾ of the population with some sort of tablet computer by mid 2013.

Brands such as Apple and Samsung will no doubt continue to enjoy sucess from this trend, but we’ll also see Microsoft Windows 8 based tablets enter the market in the near future.
