With hundreds of millions of users each month, the social networking website Facebook holds a wealth of personal information, making it a big target for criminals who want to steal and sell private data.

With so much activity on Facebook, Internet security company AVG suggests that users need to stop and think before they post information and reply to messages or other requests on the site.

As part of their recently published list of Facebook safety tips AVG suggests people also review friend requests seriously, because anyone you add to your friends list instantly gains more personal knowledge about you.

Also be careful what you say in status updates, especially if it eludes to being out of town or on your own…a potentially dangerous tip-off for criminals.
