NAB is stepping up its fight against scammers with a new security measure for online accounts.

When opening a new account, customers will now be asked to take a quick selfie using their phone. This new facial recognition check instantly matches your face to the photo on your scanned driver’s license or passport that you’ll be asked to provide, providing a secure way to verify your identity.

This will make it much harder for criminals to use stolen personal details to open fraudulent accounts. The initiative is the latest in a series of security upgrades from the bank aimed at protecting customers from the growing threat of fraud and identity theft.

The new ‘selfie check’ is currently being rolled out to various products and account types.
