We all know Australians love a chat. We’re famous for being straight-talking, a bit loud, and masters of the word-shortener (g’day, ‘arvo’, ‘sunnies’). But it turns out we’re also champions of the long talk.

Vodafone has just revealed the 15 longest phone calls made on its network in 2025, and the results are truly staggering.

Taking the gold medal for the year’s biggest chinwag is someone in Kilkenny, South Australia. This marathon call, which took place back in January, lasted a jaw-dropping 133 hours.

To put that in perspective, that’s 5.5 days of non-stop talking. In that time, you could have:

  • Watched all eight Harry Potter movies back-to-back seven times.
  • Hiked nearly halfway to Everest base camp.
  • Listened to “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers on repeat roughly 2,400 times (though we wouldn’t recommend it).

While most of us keep our calls to a few minutes, this list shows some of us are really settling in for a good yarn. A Vodafone spokesperson mentioned that this spike in super-long calls highlights just how important a reliable network is for staying connected with friends and family.

So, When Do We Love to Talk?

The data also reveals a few quirky trends about when these mega-calls happen:

  • Sundays are for settling in: Sunday was the most popular day for a long chat (26% of calls).
  • The New Year Natter: A third of the longest calls took place in early January. Maybe it was all those New Year’s resolutions to “catch up more”?
  • Start of the month: The 1st of the month was also a surprisingly popular day for a long call.
