Selling your Car online? Here’s a scam to watch out for

You’ve listed your car for sale online and after just a couple of days you receive an email from a ‘buyer’ who is prepared to pay your asking price and take the vehicle off your hands without even inspecting it. The buyer wants to pay via PayPal, however things are not as they seem.

When you receive what looks like a Payment Notification from PayPal, it also comes with a note saying that the funds are ‘on hold’ until you pay the buyer’s shipping agent an amount of money via a western union wire transfer. Alarm Bells! You’re heading into dangerous waters here and proceeding any further will find you poorer and with a ‘buyer’ who has suddenly disappeared.
